You offer a recruit an opportunity. They say no and pick another route. Do not ghost them.
Send a kind reply. Say, "Hey, great. Congratulations. Good for you. Way to go."
Sometimes the other job does not work out. The recruit comes back and asks, "Do you all still have work?" Because you were kind, you can say yes and put them to work.
They show up excited. They want a culture of nice, of kind, and of polite.
